Abstract
Lettered words often refer to some terms and special nouns. Its identification is very important to automatic identification of Chinese text and to the quality of some soft wares on information search and machine translation. This paper reviews the application of lettered words in large sampled texts, discusses some problems in extracting lettered words, and puts forward some suggestions.
