Abstract
This article puts forward a “combining” opinion on Chinese characters’ research: combining “software” with “hardware” .The two elements influence, penetrate and even transform each other. It is by means of this kind of mutual relationship that the research work is done. The research on Chinese characters’ “hardware” is called mediaology of Chinese characters. The research on Chinese characters’ “software” is divided into two parts: frameworkology of Chinese characters and stylology of Chinese characters. The former focuses on the units and rules of Chinese characters. The latter is further divided into three parts: letteringology, calligraphology and graphology of Chinese characters.
