JIANG Jiebao

Abstract

There are various features of disadvantaged roles’ polite speech in power relationship, such as courteous attitude; frequent “polite speech”; concurrent use of “positive politeness” and “negative politeness”; not taking up one’s shortcomings directly; paying more attention to direct relations with cautious and solemn words; not scrambling for discourse domination etc. The formation of these features is restricted by three factors approximately: traditional standard of “proprieties”, real interests, self- moral-cultivations and individual characters.

Keywords: polite speech; power relationship; disadvantaged role
