The Structure with “Show” and Its Tendency to Become Chinese Morpheme (Article written in Chinese)

ZHOU Youbin

Abstract

Due to more and more oversea contacts and the public’s increasing awareness to accept the foreign matter, transliteration of alien words has become more popular than free translation in modem Chinese. The transliteration of “show” is one of the typical examples. However, “show” has gradually lost its foreign attributes and adopted Chinese characteristics. This article is a pilot study of the structures with “xiu” (¨q) in terms of its combination, meaning, morpheme and the main reason why it is widely used in modem Chinese. It is hoped that the pioneer study will help to encourage the future study of loan words.

Keywords: structure with “xiu”; transliteration; free translation; tendency to become Chinese morpheme
