Abstract
Due to more and more oversea contacts and the publics increasing awareness to accept the foreign matter, transliteration of alien words has become more popular than free translation in modem Chinese. The transliteration of show is one of the typical examples. However, show has gradually lost its foreign attributes and adopted Chinese characteristics. This article is a pilot study of the structures with xiu (¨q) in terms of its combination, meaning, morpheme and the main reason why it is widely used in modem Chinese. It is hoped that the pioneer study will help to encourage the future study of loan words.
