Abstract
The connotation and extension of allograph should be defined respectively from the graphic shape, construction and usage of Chinese characters. So we do not have to take them as one same conception. The essential property of allograph is the sameness in function. Instead of the differences between the graphic shape, we should comprehend the accordance in pronunciation and meaning of allograph neatly according to different instances, synchronic characteristic is not the essential property of allograph at all. The function of allograph should be just confined to the original usage. The borrowed usage does not pertain to allograph. The neatening and standardization of allograph should serve these two purposes. The principles of the neatening and the objects of the standardization may be different due to the different purposes.
