The Integrity of Structure: Chinese Character and Visual Perception (Article written in Chinese)

Abstract

The cognition of Chinese character is the perception of the whole structure. In the case of function, the graph’s conveying of semantic and phonetic information is based on the whole structure. The parts of the structure will not function properly without the integrated structure. The key to the cognition of Chinese character is the appropriate classification. The appropriate process should be as follows: first select the basic structural components in correspondence to the historical evolution of Chinese character, then analyze their functions in different levels of graphic formation. The relations of the components should be emphasized throughout. Therefore, the structural analysis of Chinese character is to facilitate the usage of cognitive principle of structural integrity.
