Abstract
In this paper, the controversial discussion on second language teaching methodology is reviewed from two clues of expression or reason and form or function. Then the multi-dimensional milieu of Teaching Chinese as a Second Language (TCSL) is analyzed with consideration of six indispensable variables; i.e. the teaching environment, Chinese research, teaching content, study mechanism, teacher and student. Furthermore, the interactions among these variables as well as their formation mechanism are discussed with emphasis. In addition, some consideration on the multi-dimensional milieu of TCSL is taken at the end of this paper.
