Abstract
This paper attempts to analyze the principle to homonymic multi-syllabic words in Modern Chinese Dictionary (5 edition).The depart-combining principle to homonymic multisyllabic words in MCD (5 edition) differs from the measures in old editions. It consists of two criterions: 1) semantic correlation; 2) common etymology. The items that have not semantic correlation and common etymology are regarded as full homonyms; otherwise as polysemys.
