Abstract
The Green Paper on Language Situation in China (GPLSC) is a series book concerning language situation in China, encompassing two different types according to the content. Type A promulgates the soft norms of the language while type B investigates and analyzes the language situation. GPLSC released by the State Language Commission is a specific act of language planning in modern China, embodying new concepts of the state language management and new developments in linguistic research in China. The purposes of editing and publishing these books are to serve as reference for the government to make decisions, offer services for linguistic researchers, language products researchers and producers and other related people, and guide the social language life towards harmony. This paper is intended to introduce the design, operation process and basic content of GPLSC, enabling people to have a comprehensive understanding of it, expecting more supports from the academic circle and the society and the better utilization of it.
