ZHOU Jing & YANG Haiming

Abstract

There are two serials in the frame of “X yilai” that represent respectively time and event. There is an expression blank when “X” represents an event, and the blank of simplified expression is always there and replaced by changqi yilai (長期以來, the simplified expression of time serial). And yizhi yilai (一直以來) resulted from imitating the simplified expression of time serial that is a replacement for the blank of the simplified expression of event serial. The replacement, which is bound to compete with existing language forms, can be coined through imitating the existing ones.

Keywords: blank; replacement; changqi; yizhi; competition; syncretization
