Abstract
The article describes the four phases of the study on the Basic Chinese Characters since 1949. Phase division is based on the different historical situation and study methods. Affirming the Four Principles on choosing The Basic Chinese Characters, it is argued the deficiency of linguistic theory on The Basic Chinese Characters, and puts forward several topics which should be adverted.
