Abstract
Language standard and standardization are concerned with many theoretical and practical problems, and call for constant discussion. In response to some views of language standard and standardization held by the linguistics circle and the general public, the present paper addresses four issues: 1) What is “language” as in language standard? 2) What is “standard” as in language standard? 3) Do we have to popularize Putonghua or local dialects? 4) How is media language related to language standard?
