Analysis on the Degree of Difficulty of the Elementary Word in TCSL (Article written in Chinese)

Abstract

The elementary word is the foundation of Modern Chinese vocabulary. We define that the words of class A and class B in Degree Syllabus are the elementary words in TCSL so that there is a definite limits relatively about the elementary word in TCSL, there are the more than 3000 words in class A and class B. The elementary word is thought easy to be learnt, in fact this view is not correct. This paper proves the manifestations of the difficult degree from the function words and the quantity of the homonymy and the semantic item’s structure and the capability of word-formation in the elementary words, therefore, the Chinese language teachers need to pay attention to these manifestations of the difficult degree. We also put forward some suggestions for the teaching of the elementary word.
