An Acoustic Analysis on the Tonal Variation of Uighur Chinese in Wulumuqi (Article written in Chinese)

ZHU Xuejia

Abstract

The thesis presents a description of the tonal system in Uighur Chinese through a large-scale sampling of and a statistical analysis of the tonal variation of Chinese used by the Uighur People in the city of Wulumuqi, Xinjiang. The description is made by means of human perception and computerized speech recognition. We adopt the five-scale calculating system and transform the results of speech recognition into the five-scale system, on which a study is made on the “Uighur tone and intonation” which is typical of Uighur Chinese. The study, to a great extent, reflects the status of the tonal variation in Uighur Chinese. It is significant in promoting bilingual teaching and spreading Putonghua.
