A Preliminary Research on the Prosodic Features in News Broadcasting (Article written in Chinese)

LI Xiaohua

Abstract

The paper investigates the patterns of the prosodic features in news broadcast discourse based on an acoustic analysis of authentic speech data of news broadcast. The research focuses on the duration patterns of the basic speech chunk (consisting of 1–4 syllables). The main findings are as follows: (1) The speech duration pattern of news broadcast falls into two different types: extended-tailed model and extended-headed model; the former is a normal model. (2) The duration of basic chunks grows as the number of syllables increases, but the mean syllable duration decreases. (3) The duration of basic chunks ranges from 350ms to 1100ms. (4) The extended-tailed model plays a prominent role in constituting a prosodic profile.
