Inferring the Meaning of Compound Words in Chinese Reading (Article written in Chinese)

ZHU Xiangyan & ZHOU Jian

Abstract

After reviewing the past research on compound words, we analyze the relation among compound word composition, the meaning of morphemic word and the meaning of word, and conclude that: The meaning of morphemic word is the basis of the meaning of the word, its composition can be understood on the basis of the meaning of morphemic word or the word. It is more effective to study the compound word composition in the reading and writing classes than in the training of reading skills. In order to improve the skills of word guessing, the training of both bottom-up and top-down is encouraged.

Keywords: compound words; morphemic word; word guessing; reading skills
