WANG Ning

Abstract

This paper explains some principles in working out the New Normalized Chinese Character List. Chinese character normalization is imperative in the Information Age. Thruough [sic] computer keyboards, Chinese characters spread at a higher high speed, to a longer distance and a higher level of socialization. Thus we propose some new ideas of Chinese character normalization: first of all, the amount of normalized character should be increased; secondly, the strength and breadth of the implementing the normalization must be moderate; thirdly, to the application of the List, on one hand we should stick to this List, on the other hand everyone takes what he needs from the List. So it is helpful not only for the development of the politics, economy and culture in the Information Age, but also for the a [sic] harmonious linguistic life at large.

Keywords: the normalization of Chinese characters; informalization; current character; character for special use
