The Intrinsic Evolutionary Law and the Artificial Standardization of Chinese Characters (Article written in Chinese)

WANG Lijun

Abstract

It is important to think in a principled and dialectic way in the artificial standardization of Chinese characters. We cannot either ignore and sidestep the historical and actual development of Chinese characters, in the meantime, we cannot go against the natural evolution of Chinese characters. The principled artificial standardization of Chinese characters has to be in line with the general tendency of Chinese characters’ natural development in that we should abstract its essential content, shorten its process, and make the Chinese character system serve the social needs more quickly and better. The development of the Standardized Chinese Character List must stick to this principle at all times.

Keywords: Chinese characters; artificial standardization; the Standardized Chinese Character List
