Statistical Methods in Chinese Character Standardization (Article written in Chinese)

ZHOU Xiaowen & WANG Xiaoming

Abstract

One of the first issues in Chinese character standardization is the number of the frequently used characters. This research compared the incidence of the common characters in the Table of Standardized Chinese Characters with the incidence of the original Table of Common Characters statistically. The research indicates that the former is observably higher than the latter. Therefore we conclude that the confirmed common characters in the Table of Standardized Chinese Characters are better and optimized.

Keywords: common characters; the Table of Standardized Chinese Characters; cumulative frequency; statistical method
