Abstract
This paper made a case study, with the Verbal Protocol method, into the cognitive process of identifying Chinese text hidden-topics. From the case study, we find that the complexity of verbal protocol reflects the complexity of thinking process of the subjects, and the number of using cognitive strategies is proportional to the complexity of thinking procedure. The identification of topics is a process of matching text feature information with the feature information stored in the brain. Chinese text comment-clauses have the capacity of assignment to text topics. The identification of Chinese text hidden-topics is a process of reorganization the topic according to the features described by the comment-clauses.
