Mother Tongue Maintenance in a Multilingual Cultural Context: A Singaporean Case (Article written in Chinese)

Abstract

Singapore government has successfully realized its language planning after years of endeavor. This achievement has been highly praised, but there still be problems or arguments. In the context of the current global popularity of Chinese learning, it is rather challenging to maintain mother tongues for such a multilingual country where Chinese is the dominant language. The re-evaluating of the process and result of Singapore language planning and the prediction of its prospect can also offer insights into the language planning of China.
