Language Expectations from Parents and the Language Development of Chinese Primary and Secondary School Students (Article written in Chinese)

Abstract

The language expectations from parents are the result of their choice driven by the language policy and overall market demand. Parents are urged to develop the language environment of studying and speaking Mandarin for their children by their language expectations. It becomes the external support of the language development for children, and in the meanwhile, it challenges the natural transmission of the traditional language environment in family. Now it gives some pressure to the dialect maintenance and transmission, which has not been a big challenge to the urban language life.
