Abstract
Compared with native Chinese speakers, CFL learners overuse pronominal anaphora, but underuse nominal anaphora and zero anaphora. After analyzing the essays of CFL students from different levels, the following types of error are found: 1) the misuse of pronominal anaphora when zero anaphora is in place, and the misuse of nominal anaphora when pronominal anaphora is necessary, which appear more frequently in lower level CFL learners essays; 2) the misuse of zero anaphora while pronominal anaphora is appropriate and the misuse of pronominal anaphora when nominal anaphora is preferred, which appear more frequently in higher level CFL learners essays.
