Applied Linguistics (Yuyan Wenzi Yingyong)

Abstract

The Internet has rendered people to reconsider many issues of language, one of which is the language diversity on the Internet. In its early development, the Internet had been believed to be a world of English. Later, people began to be positive about the language diversity on the Internet. However, the diversity has not been easy to achieve given some historical, technical, market and management factors. To counteract the disadvantages, measures can be taken in terms of macro and micro aspects. The maintenance of language diversity on the Internet will greatly ease the predicament of endangered languages.
