Fostering a Broader View of Creativity: Reinterpreting Creative Thinking (Article written in chinese)

YUE Xiaodong

Abstract

This paper argues for a broader view of creativity in everyday life. It starts by addressing the four commonly held misbelief about creativity and argues that in educating students, teachers often gives too much attention to enhancement of con vergent thinking and too little attention to enhancement of divergent thinking. Consequently, students' thinking has been greatly standardized toward convergent thinking, leaving little room for development of imaginative and innovative thinking. Thus, pe ople should adopt a broader view of creativity by which everybody is capable of maximizing his creativity as long as he tries to actualize his creative potentials and develop its related characters.

Keywords: creativity; convergent thinking; divergent thinking
