Abstract
This article presents findings of a study on the practice of school management learned from the past experiences of twenty-five secondary school principals. The study serves to contribute to research at the level of practice in the Singapore context. The findings reveal that the principals have learned and practised aspects pertaining to leadership, namely, leading, planning and organising administrative tasks, relating to the external environment, and monitoring. It is argued that if promising school educators are to be exposed to on-the-job school management experiences under the guidance of role models at one time of another at an early stage of their career, their learning experiences can be positively enhanced.
