The Role of Government and Social Organizations in Extra-curricular Life of the Primary and Middle School Students: Current Situation and Developing Spaces (Article written in Chinese)

Abstract

Background: To have a good grasp of the primary and middle school students’ extra-curricular life and improve the quality of their leisure time, Guangzhou Institute of Education Science set up a study team on extra-curricular life of the primary and middle school students. Investigating the present situation and problems about the primary and middle school students’ extra-curricular life in Guangzhou and several other cities is the team’s duty. Our study report is one of the series findings reports. Its aim lies in comprehending the current situation and developing spaces of government and social organizations in extra-curricular life of the primary and middle school students.

Focus of discussion: Based on the former investigation, we organized several forums. Focus of discussion is the role which Guangzhou government and social organizations act as in the students’ extra-curricular Life. And we try our best to collect more operative suggestions that could expand the function of government and social organizations.

Arguments: The function and the role of government and social organizations is the most important thing in many factors which give effects to the primary and middle school students. At present, the extra-curricular life of the students in Guangzhou has ten important problems which need to pay more close attention, such as “lack of leisure time belonging to the students themselves”; “activities venue be short in supply”; “the present activities venue be structural imbalance”; “the function of extra-scholastic activities organizations be monotonous” and so on.

Conclusion: As to how to settle the problems, we provide six suggestions on advocating healthy concept, establishing special organ, cleaning social environment, developing community resource, harmonizing the out-school activity places, improving work pattern etc.
