The Unseen Tears of Children

¶À«¥ú

Abstract

The most common child psychiatric disorders are the behavioural disorders, usually the results of longstanding abnormalities in the family. The unfortunate children suffer from severe emotional conflicts. But their tears can seldom be seen. Instead they often present a myriad of somatic, behavioural, conduct, delinquent, learning and social symptoms. The access to the inner world of these children and the successful treatment of the abnormal families depend heavily on the understanding of these symptoms. Seven cases are used to the common psychodynamic factors involved. The features of normal and abnormal families are described and their significance discussed. Common therapeutic principles are also described.
