KOH Soon Lee, Aaron

BA (1st Class Honours) (Murdoch), PGDE (Distinction) (NIE, S'pore), PhD (Queensland)

Aaron Koh is a qualified English teacher. He has a First Class Honours in English & Comparative Literature from Murdoch University and a Postgraduate Diploma in Education (with Distinction) from the National Institute of Education (NIE) Singapore specializing in English Language and Literature teaching. He taught the GCE A levels General Paper in a junior college in Singapore (equivalent to Form 5 and 6 in Hong Kong) and Language Arts in an independent school in Singapore.

After completing his PhD at the University of Queensland in 2003, he began his academic career at Monash University but returned to Asia and taught at the Hong Kong Institute of Education and National Institute of Education, Singapore.

His research fields include Globalisation and Education, Sociology of Education, Critical English Education and Cultural Studies in Education. He serves on the Editorial Board of four international journals: Discourse: studies in the cultural politics of education (Routledge), Curriculum Inquiry (Routledge), Journal of Curriculum and Pedagogy (Routledge) and Journal of Adolescent & Adult Literacy (Wiley-Blackwell). He is also the Co-founder Book Series Editor (with Victoria Carrington), Cultural Studies and Transdisciplinarity in Education (Springer).

He recently completed a five-year Australia Research Council (ARC) funded study on "Elite Independent Schools in Globalising Circumstances: A global multi-sited ethnography" with a team of international collaborators from Monash University (Jane Kenway and Johannah Fahey), University of Melbourne (Fazal Rizvi), Roehampton University (Debbie Epstein) and University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (Cameron McCarthy).
