Admission
1. What are the admission requirements for the Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood Education) Programme?
You should:
1. a. have attained the Qualified Kindergarten Teachers (QKT) status by attending a course of not less than 250 contact hours; and
b. have completed the Certificate in Early Childhood Education (CE(ECE)) with a Grade Point Average of 2.0 or above at a recognized post-secondary institution; and
c. be holding a full-time teaching position in the field of early childhood education.
OR
2. If you have not reached the QKT and CE(ECE) requirements yet (e.g. the contact hours of the QKT course is less than 250), but be aged 23 or over on 1st September in the year in which admission is sought, provided that
a. you are able to show either by publication or other acceptable evidence that you have achieved sufficient competence in early childhood education to justify admission; or have shown exceptional ability in appropriate academic or professional field; and
b. you have had at least five years of professional experience in the field of education or other relevant fields; and
c. you sit and pass an entry test
2. If I have already attained the QKT status with course's contact hours not less than 250 and am a kindergarten teacher, but I am currently studying the CE(ECE) at a recognized post-secondary institution that will be completed in June this year, am I eligible to apply to the programme?
Yes. If you are short listed and pass the interview, you will receive a conditional offer. The condition is that you must complete the CE(ECE) with a Grade Point Average of 2.0 or above before admitting to our programme.
3. Is it compulsory to provide the recommendation letters?
Yes, applicants are required to provide us with two recommendation letters. It is preferable that one recommendation be provided by your current employer (e.g. principal of your teaching school), immediate supervisor or colleagues.
4. What criteria will be taken into consideration when assessing the applicants? And what are their weightings?
We will consider applicants on the basis of their academic/professional qualifications, work experience, objectives for studying the programme, recommendations, entry test result (if applicable), and interview performance . All criteria weight equally.
5. Do for all applicants need to attend the admission interview ?
Only short listed applicants will be invited for an admission interview. The 2008-09 admission interviews will be arranged from February 2008.
6. When will I get the application result?
Admitted applicants will be notified of their application results by May 2008. Letters will also be sent to unsuccessful applicants in August 2008.
7. How many admission places are there each year ?
Around 50.
Programme
1. When and where will the classes be held?
There are three terms in each academic year (September to November, December to March, and April to June). Classes will be held on campus, in the weekdays evening.
2. What is the medium of instruction?
Chinese will be the major medium of instruction, with English as a supplement.
3. What is the period of study of this programme?
The normative study period is 3 years. However, if the student cannot attend any one of the terms, he/she can apply for extension of the study period. The maximum study period is 5 years.
4. What are the graduation requirements ?
A minimum of 70 credit units at a cumulative GPA of not less than 2.0 are required to graduate. All undergraduate students are also required to pass the IT Proficiency Test prescribed by the University before graduation.
5. Under what circumstances can students exempt from ‘IT Proficiency Test’?
All undergraduate students in CUHK must sit and pass the IT Proficiency Test by the last year of study in order to graduate. Exemption will NOT be granted except to those students who have already fulfilled the requirement at CUHK before entering the BEd in Early Childhood Education Programme or those who have taken and passed the International Computer Driving License Test.
