AbstractThe present study, based on a model on spumed helpers' reactions, attempts to examine the extent to which spuming would contribute to burnout in a group of beginning teachers. Prospective teachers enroled in a teacher training program were invited to participate in a study on their school experience. Spuming and burnout were measured before they started teaching, and six months and one year into their work. The results showed that spuming did result in burnout. The processes by which spuming contributed to burnout were also discussed.
