Children's Attitudes Towards Learning With Computers

Jonathan ANDERSON

Abstract

It has been said that the real technological revolution began when microprocessors came within the reach of virtually everyone. Certainly, as the price of computers falls, schools are purchasing microcomputers in increasing numbers and we are witnessing something of a revolution (Anderson 1984). But what do children think about computers and how do they regard them as a learning aid. Can computers help with reading, writing and learning?

It was these questions that prompted a study in one Australian school. The following report of a small-scale action research project describes how the computer was integrated into the regular reading and writing program and what the principal participants - the Year 2 children -- thought about it.
