FAQ for PGS

Request for SPSS software
Depends on research needs, student is entitled to install one license of SPSS software into the office computer upon approval of supervisor.  To request for installation, please fill-in the application form ( http://www.fed.cuhk.edu.hk/etu/forms.htm ) and submit to our office.  Our colleague will then contact you to arrange the installation in the next working day.  Please be noted that the SPSS license is not allowed to install to any non-CUHK owned computers due to restrictions of license terms.  Also, since the license is an annual license style, the SPSS license needs to be re-apply and re-install each year.

Request for Windows reinstallation
In most case, computer problems may not need a total reinstallation.  The ETU office will only accept request of Windows reinstallation when change of seats, hard drive failure, crashes of Windows OS or serious infection of virus happens.  This kind of service require 3 working days for processing.  Please also be reminded to backup your own data beforehand.

Request for Relocation of Computers
After the renewal of office computers, the machines are configured based on location and all have inventory records.  Therefore, relocation of the physical computers should be .  When change of seat is necessary, student can backup their data and then move to the computers in the new seat. In this case, the student can request for Windows reinstallation of the original computers in order to protect his/her own privacy.

About student-owned notebook
The computer staff of the Faculty will serves computer machines owned by the Faculty.  If your self-owned notebook or computer is out of order, you are encouraged to contact the corresponding local vendors or other computer shop nearby for necessary assistance.
A centralized notebook ownership program will be launched each year at September and offer at good price.  You may consider to join this program if you are looking for a notebook for yourself.
