Anti-spam in the Faculty of Education
Spam is annoying and it affects your work everyday. It takes your time to manage it while it is something you don't want. Like virus, new type of spam reports everyday. Unlike virus, it will not cause damage but it takes up spaces of your email box.
To minimize the impact of Spam, Educational Technology Unit (ETU) has implemented an anti-spam solution in the Faculty of Education at by two phases.
Phase I |
Web Server |
Jul 2008 |
Phase II |
Internal Email Server |
Feb 2009 |
A special machine sits in the network and scans the email traffic. A combination of mechanisms will be used to identify spam and a signature will be added to the Email subject for easy identification. At present stage, all email addresses in the domain fed.cuhk.edu.hk (e.g. project123@fed.cuhk.edu.hk) are supported. The next phase of this project is to expand the scope to the Faculty Internal Email. More information will be provided later.
To enjoy the anti-spam service, your email client (eg MS Outlook) must recognize the following signatures inside the Email Subject :
[SPAM -- Detected by FED Anti-Spam system] or[SUSPECTED SPAM -- Detected by FED Anti-Spam system]
To do the setup, please refer to the following procedures :
