Welcome to the website of the Chinese University Faculty of Education. The Faculty has a history of over forty years and in 1991-92, the former School of Education was reconstituted to become the Faculty of Education. There are now four departments and one unit within the Faculty: the Departments of Curriculum and Instruction, Educational Administration and Policy, Educational Psychology, Sports Science and Physical Education and the Physical Education Unit.

The Faculty of Education currently has a teaching staff of more than 80 with a student population of over 2,800 who are pursuing studies on a wide range of full-time and part-time programmes: Bachelor of Education (BEd), Postgraduate Diploma in Education, Master of Arts (M.A.), Master of Science (M.Sc.), Master of Education (M.Ed.), Master of Philosophy (M.Phil.), Doctor of Education (Ed.D) and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.).

In the past few years, the Faculty, in collaboration with our close partner, the Hong Kong Institute of Educational Research, introduced a number of self-financed programmes and courses which mainly cater for the needs of in-service teachers. These include Advanced Postgraduate Diploma in Education programmes and Master Programmes. With the establishment of the Centre for University and School Partnership in 1998, the Faculty has fostered an active and mutually beneficial relationship between the University and the school sector to bring about desirable changes in individual schools as well as in the school community.

There are more than 20,000 graduates from our teacher education programmes. About one-third and half of primary and secondary school principals respectively are our Faculty alumni. As for our PhD programmes, many of our graduates are currently holding leadership positions in universities and educational institutions.

To cultivate an environment that is conducive to the growth of pre-service and in-service teachers as learners and professionals, we provide our students with different levels of teacher education curriculum that emphasises reflection both on teaching and learning and on educational issues. To help realise our mission of becoming a leading national research center in educational studies and professional development in education, we seek to strengthen our links and collaboration with other national and overseas institutions as well as with local schools.
