  Advancement to candidature is conditional upon the satisfactory completion of 21 credit-units of  

  coursework in Educational Studies and Research Methods. EdD candidates should, under the  

  supervision of their supervisors, submit a thesis proposal, complete the thesis and pass an oral

  defence within a prescribed period of time for graduation. In addition, all students are required to meet

  the requirement of IT Proficiency prescribed by the University.

(1) Course Requirements

    (a) Students are required complete a minimum of 21 units of coursework before the granting of EdD.

         candidature.

(i)   Required Courses 9 units
(ii)  Research-related courses 6 units
(iii) Elective Courses 6 units

                Total:     21 units

  

    (b) EDM 900T: students are required to take EDM 900T every term from the time of admission, 

        throughout the preparation of thesis, until its completion.

(2) Comprehensive / Qualifying Examination

     No further comprehensive / qualifying examination is required.

(3) Other requirements

     (a) IT Proficiency Test prescribed by the University;

     (b) Normally within a year after advancement to Ed.D candidature, the candidate has to register for

          the course EDM 910T (9 units), and to submit and present the thesis proposal in an open 

          presentation. After the thesis proposal has been approved, the candidate should, under the

          supervision of her/his supervisor, submit a thesis and pass the oral defence within a prescribed

          period of time for graduation.

     (c) Complete an Improving Postgraduate Learning (IPL) course "Observing Intellectual Property and 

          Copyright Law during Research."

Class Schedule

There are two terms in one academic year. Term 1 is from September to December, while Term 2 is from January to April. Classes are usually offered in the evenings of Monday to Friday, and on Saturday mornings.
