1 How to a Create New Connection with Windows XP
 
   

Click Start --> Connect To --> Show All Connections
   
   


After going into the Network Connections, click Create a new connection in the left column
 
   
   



Click Next when the welcome wizard come out
   
   

1. Choose Connect to the network at my workplace
2. Click the button Next.
   
   


1. Choose Dial-up connection
2.
Click the button Next.

   
   

1. Assign a name to the connection, such as "FED"
2.
Click the button Next.
   
   

1. Then type the phone number for connecting network, the number offered by faculty is "29335600"

2.
Click the button Next.
   
   

Click Finish to complete creating the new connection.
If you want to create a shortcut to your desktop, check the box in the middle.
   
   
2 Configure settings for your connection  
   
   


Go to Network Connections and double click the connection you have created.
   
   


The "Connect xxx..." dialogue box will show up after you choose the connection, then click Properties
   
   


Click the Security tab, check the Advanced (custom settings) option, then click settings
   
   


1. In the Data encryption, choose Optional encryption
(connect even if no encryption)

2.
In the Logon security, choose Allow these protocols and check "Unencrypted password (PAP)" only.

3. Then click OK
   
   

After you finish the setting, an information box will show up indicating that no data encryption will be carried out, just click Yes
   
   
3 Dial up for connecting the network  
   
   



1. Go to Network Connections and double click the connection you have created.

2. A "Connect xxx..." dialogue box will show up again,
For the User name, it is the same to your CWEM account's login name;

For the Password, it is generated by Faculty Computer Account Management System, To retrieve or change the password, please go to this page.

If you want to save the password, check the box beside "Save this user name ....."

Then click Dial

   
   

You can check whether the computer has connected to network by checking the Connected icon in the system tray located at the bottom right-hand-side.

If the icon has no red-cross, that means you have connected to the network successfully, and the icon will glow when
the computer is loading a page.

   
   

When you double click the icon, you can check the detail of connection
