Using wikis for collaborative writing:
Shatin Pui Ying College

Wikis were first introduced to Shatin Pui Ying College (SPYC) in the first term of 2006-2007 as a pilot project in collaboration with the WrITE Project. A Secondary 1 class wrote collaboratively via wikis about their new secondary school life.

With the success in the pilot project, SPYC decided to adopt wikis across the whole Secondary 1 cohort covering 199 students in the second term. Students were encouraged to contribute to their own group writing.

The use of wikis at SPYC was not a standalone writing activity; it had been closely knitted into their mainstream English curriculum. Module 3 of the scheme of work, “I Love Hong Kong”, was chosen as the theme of the group writing project using wikis.
