Introduction

The Bachelor of Arts (English Studies) and Bachelor of Educaiton (Honours) (English Language Education) Programme is a 4-year full-time programme jointly offered by The Chinese University of Hong Kong and The Hong Kong Institute of Education. Students spend periods of study in both institutions, following a well-integrated curriculum. They enjoy an extensive range of state-of-the-art teaching and learning facilities at both institutions. They conduct supervised teaching practice in local secondary schools and spend a semester studying in a university in an English-speaking country. The programme graduates are eligible for both Registered Teacher Status and exemption from the Language Proficiency Assessment for Teachers (English Language). Graduates from the programme have the potential to follow a range of careers as specialists in English language education.

 

 

Aims

  • To provide students with an exceptionally strong knowledge base in English Language, English Literature and Culture and Educational Studies.
  • To equip students with the pedagogical knowledge and skills for the effective teaching of English.
  • To nurture caring, professional and committed English language teachers.

 

Programme Features

  • Students spend periods of study at both institutions, following a well- integrated curriculum
  • Students study in a university in an English-speaking country for one semester.
  • Students conduct teaching practice in local secondary schools.
  • Graduates are eligible for registration as qualified English teachers in local schools in Hong Kong.
  • Graduates are eligible for exemption from the Language Proficiency Assessment for Teachers (English) (LPATE)

Admission Requirement

  • Applicants should have obtained
    • Grade E or above in 7 subjects in one sitting in HKCEE including 2 language subjects;
    • Grade E or above in 2AL or 1AL plus 2AS subjects (other than Use of English and Chinese Language & Culture); and
    • A minimum of Grade D in HKASL Use of English and Grade E in HKASL Chinese Language and Culture.
  • Applicants are required to attend an interview.
  • Applications from Early Admission Scheme and non-JUPAS will be considered on an individual basis.
