about Evolution and the Nature of Science : This site from the National
Academy of Sciences offers background information, discussion topics,
National Science Education Standards, an FAQ file on Evolution and the
Nature of Science, and teaching activities. There are also case studies
on court rulings on evolution and creationism.

Genetics : From Biology
Teachers...Unplugged!, an on-line practice on solving genetics problems.

The following method may be helpful in presenting the concept of genes
and alleles:
Imagine we are walking down a street with shops on both sides:
Nike shoes shop | | Adidas shoes shop
| |
| |
McDonald's | | Kentucky
| |
The type
of shops on the same position of each side is the same, i.e. each
side of the street represent one of the pair of homologus chromosomes.
Each type of shop is an analog to a "gene". For example,
"shoes shop" is a gene. But each shop can sell different
things. For example, a Nike shoes shop only sells Nike shoes,
and an Adidas shoes shop sells Adidas shoes. The kind of things
sold by a shop is therefore an analog to an "allele".
