Teacher Development for Students with Specific Learning Difficulties (TDSpLD)

Specific learning difficulties, or SpLD, covers a wide range of difficulties. It is generally accepted that Dyslexia is the most common form of SpLD. The Hong Kong Jockey Club launched a five-year project entitled READ & WRITE: A Jockey Club Learning Support Network (READ & WRITE) with an endowment of over HK$150 million to provide comprehensive educational support to children with reading and writing difficulties. The project began in September 2006.

 
 
The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), is responsible for providing professional training for teachers. Led by Prof. Cheng Pui-wan of the Department of Educational Psychology, TDSpLD has been established for providing a high-quality professional development programme for primary school Chinese Language teachers. The programme addresses the general progression and cognitive process of reading development, the essential components of research-based classroom instruction, and the practices of literacy intervention in Chinese.
