Abstract
This paper discusses the teaching of coherence in writing. First, definitions or coherence, as well as a dichotomy of coherence (the local versus global dichotomy), are given. This section is followed by a report of a study of problems of coherence in students' writing. The problems are defined, and illustrated by the analysis of examples taken from the compositions of the writer's Form Seven students. Finally, suggestions are made to help students to make improvements in the coherence of their writing.
