A Survey of Journals on Mathematics Education

CHEUNG Pak Hong

Abstract

An important, but often neglected, obligation of teachers is continuing professional development. A part of being a profess ional mathematics teacher is knowing about current directions and advancement in mathematics education. A mathematics teacher can keep abreast of modern developments in mathematics education and new approaches to mathematics teaching by reading journals. This is a report of the author's survey on journals useful for secondary school mathematics teachers in Hong Kong. The report includes only journals published in English but an appendix of a highly selective list of journals in Chinese is also included. Teachers are strongly requested to recommend some of these journals, particularly those for students, for their school libraries, to recommend selected articles for students, and to encourage students to write articles or solve problems contained therein.
