School Children Suicide in Hong Kong 9/91-3/93

Abstract

This study examines the 40 fatal suicides committed by school children aged 10-19 in Hong Kong from September 1991 to March 1993. There were 22 girls and 18 boys; 21 children in the age group 10-14 and 19 in the age group 15-19. 24 of the 40 case were students of For 3 or below. According to district distribution.

19 cases were found in Kowloon, 14 in the New Territories and 7 on Hong Kong Island. The number of fatal suicides reached a peak in the middle ot the week. Statistical analysis shows that the school children fatal suicide rate is increasing slightly with time and that girls of the age group 15-19 has the largest rate or increase.
