Every Teacher is a Careers Teacher

Anne Leung

Abstract

This paper argues for a re-definition of careers education. It starts with an enumeration of the most common careers activities, drawing attention to the difficulties confronting the assigned careers teachers. Most problems are found to originate from a lack of shared vision among the staff members of a school. In trying to find a new definition for careers education as it should be in Hong Kong in 1990’s, the author wishes to appeal to all those involved in educating the young to re-examine the existing careers education in the light of the difficulties and ineffectiveness experienced in schools.
