TSE Shek Kam, TANG Mei Sin, KWAN Che Ying and SIT Fung Ming

Abstract

Many primary school pupils do not like composing Chinese. The research project reported in this paper was designed to improve the teaching of Chinese writing in a primary school by using a new teaching method - the whole language approach. This approach created an effective language learning environment. It also helped learners to engage themselves in active learning and supported interactive learning. It was found that this method could enhance the writing abilities of the pupils of the school, both in quality and quantity. The pupils actively participated in writing activities and the teachers enjoyed marking their scripts.
