Managing Tutors in Distance Education in Hong Kong

James Y.W.Tong

Abstract

An accredited institution offering courses and programmes through the distance earning mode should offer a full range of support services to its learners. The quality of such services rests with the integrity, dedication and motivational skills of the tutors who play an important role in helping the learners progress in their studies. Responsible and conscientious tutors will not only help learners overcome their problems in learning, they can also instil a lot of motivation to the learners who may otherwise feel frustrated learning on their own. There are distinct areas where tutors' performance can be monitored in order to achieve quality assurance. Effective monitoring can also be seen as a means of staff development.
