Review and Prospect of Mathematics Education Reform in the Chinese Mainland (Article written in Chinese)

Shidong SU and Mingchu XIE

Abstract

To cope with the development of society, mathematics education in primary and secondary schools in China has experienced many significant reforms since the establishment of The Peoples's Republic of China more than fifty years ago. There have been successful experiences as well as lessons of failure in the reforms. To further push for the healthy development of mathematics education, it is necessary to deeply reflect on past reforms. On the one hand we should understand and rethink mathematics education in China from the country's national situation. On the other hand, we should examine the merits and limitations of Chinese mathematics education based on the developmental trends in mathematics education internationally.
