Introduction

Dr. Cindy finds her passion for teaching and developing pedagogy for care and kindness ever since she became a licensed early childhood educator in British Columbia (BC). After graduating from the University of Toronto with a honours bachelor degree in Psychology, she gained valuable research experience in various areas of children's development, such as children’s moral and deceptive understanding, development of resilience in cross-cultural settings, and parental involvement in children’s school readiness.

During her Master's degree in Human Development, Learning, and Culture, and Ph.D. in Interdisciplinary Studies in Education at the University of British Columbia, Dr. Cindy immersed herself in the world of children’s social and emotional learning (SEL) by exploring the dynamics of authentic learning experiences that parents created to foster children’s literacy and meaningful mutual interaction.

Her previous experiences at different private family foundations have enabled her to collaborate with international and local universities to develop a certification program in the science of mindfulness and happiness. This includes collaboration with the Greater Good Science Center at the University of California, Berkeley. Alongside her academic pursuits, Cindy offers consultation services to local primary and secondary schools, promoting schoolwide systematic adoption of SEL. Journey into lifelong learning, Cindy became a qualified educator for Applied Compassion in the 2023 cohort at Stanford Medicine, the Centre for Compassion and Altruism Research and Education. On a lighter note, Cindy is dubbed as “Advisor Mom” in the 10-episode series “Mom Me a Minute”, discuss various parenting issues, with videos available on the online platform of Television Broadcast.
