Programme Requirements

Study Scheme

1) Students are required to complete a total of 24 units for graduation.

(a) Applicable to NYSKQ (Not yet subject-knowledge qualified) group
(i) 5 courses from: ENLT 6701-6706

15 units

(ii) 3 courses from: ENLT 6801-6806, PEDU 6111

9 units

Total: 24 units

(b) Applicable to ASKQ (Already subject-knowledge qualified) group
(i) 2 courses from: ENLT 6701-6706

6 units

(ii) 3-6 courses from: ENLT 6801-6806, PEDU 6111, one MEd course offered by the Department of Curriculum & Instruction.

9 – 18 units

(iii) Course on research methods Student can opt to take 2 courses from: PEDU 6003-6004, 6401-6406 (each 1.5 units)#

0 – 3 units

(iv) Project in English language and teaching (6 units) (Student can opt to undertake ENLT 6900*)

0 – 6 units

Total: 24 units

# There are pre-requisites for PEDU 6404 & 6405. Please refer to Faculty handbook – course descriptions for details.
* Students who are admitted to ENLT 6900 must take 2 courses on research methods.

Note: Courses will be mainly taught in English. The medium of instruction will be subject to the availability of teachers. The Programme reserves the right of final decision on the medium of instruction. Students should observe the medium of instruction of each course in the system for course selection and registration.

 

2) Other Requirements

(a) A student must achieve a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of at least 2.0 in order to fulfil the graduation requirement.
(b) Students must fulfil the term assessment requirement of the Graduate School. A student who obtains a cumulative GPA below 2.0 in the preceding term will be put on academic probation. Class Schedule

There are two terms per academic year. Term 1 is from September to December, and Term 2 from January to April. Classes are usually offered on weekday evenings and Saturday mornings.
